THIS course will examine the history of Christian ethical reflection on medicine and health care, with particular attention to common ethical dilemmas concerning the end of life.  The development of the Catholic moral tradition of health care and bioethics will be studied both from an historical perspective and through careful study of official Catholic teaching documents.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

PLEASE read the  article: A Chronicle, Dax's Case as it Happened.  If you have time, you may also want to take a look at the collection Sentenced to Life, by Wicker and Divine.  We will be watching together a video of Dax Cowart's story that is used to teach bioethics in medical and nursing schools throughout the USA.

ALSO, please familiarize yourself with the course syllabus.  You may wish to begin thinking about possible topics for a paper or presentation.

OUR first Discussion Forum is open, raising the question of Dax' request for "assisted suicide" minutes after his accident.  Please log on to the Moodle site and post a response (or two!) to the questions after we have begun to look at the video at our first class meeting.  And let me know if you have any difficulties with Moodle.
