PSALM 92

Ant.

Paráta sedes tua ex tunc: * a sǽculo tu es.

Elevavérunt flúmina, Dómine: * elevavérunt flúmina vocem suam.

Elevavérunt flúmina fluctus suos, * a vócibus aquárum multárum.

Mirábiles elatiónes maris: * mirábilis in altis Dóminus.

Testimónia tua credibília facta sunt nimis: * domum tuam decet sanctitúdo, Dómine, in longitúdinem diérum.

V. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

R. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Ant.

Ant. O what a wondrous exchange: the creator of humankind taking a living body, deigned to be born of a virgin: and coming forth man without seed has given to us His Divinity.

The Lord is king, with majesty enrobed;
the Lord has robed himself with might, he has girded himself with power.

The world you made firm, not to be moved;
your throne has stood firm from of old. From all eternity, O Lord, you are.

The waters have lifted up, O Lord,
the waters have lifted up their voice,

the waters have lifted up their thunder.
Greater than the roar of mighty waters

more glorious than the surgings of the sea, the Lord is glorious on high.

Truly your decrees are to be trusted.
Holiness is fitting to your house, O Lord, until the end of time.

V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

R. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Ant. O what a wondrous exchange: the creator of humankind taking a living body, deigned to be born of a virgin: and coming forth man without seed has given to us His Divinity.

PSALM 99

Ant. Quando natus es ineffabiliter ex virgine, tunc impletae sunt scripturae, sicut pluvia in vellus descendisti: ut salvum faceres genus humanum: te laudamus Deus Noster.

JUBILATE Deo, omnis terra: * servíte Dómino in lætítia.

Introíte in conspéctu ejus, * in exsultatióne.

Amen.

Ant. Quando natus es ineffabiliter ex virgine, tunc impletae sunt scripturae, sicut pluvia in vellus descendisti: ut salvum faceres genus humanum: te laudamus Deus Noster.

Ant. When beyond all telling You were born of the virgin, then were the scriptures fulfilled, like dew upon the fleece did You descend to save mankind: we praise you our God.

Cry out with joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Serve the Lord with gladness.

Come before him, singing for joy.

Know that he, the Lord, is God.
He made us, we belong to him,

we are his people, the sheep of his flock.
Go within his gates, giving thanks. Enter his courts with songs of praise.

Give thanks to him and bless his name.
Indeed, how good is the Lord, eternal his merciful love.
He is faithful from age to age.

V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

R. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Ant. When beyond all telling You were born of the virgin, then were the scriptures fulfilled, like dew upon the fleece did You descend to save mankind: we praise you our God.

PSALM 62

Ant. Rubum quem viderat Moyses incombustum, conservatam agnovimus tuam laudabilem virginitatem, Dei genitrix intercede pro nobis.

Et in velaménto alárum tuárum exsultábo, adhæsit ánima mea post te: * me suscépit déxtera tua.

Ipsi vero in vanum quæsiérunt ánimam meam, introíbunt in inferióra terræ: * tradéntur in manus gládii, partes vúlpium erunt.

Rex vero lætábitur in Deo, laudabúntur omnes qui jurant in eo: * quia obstrúctum est os loquéntium iníqua.

V. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

R. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Ant. The bush Moses saw burn unconsumed - we acknowledge your praiseworthy virginity conserved , O Mother of God intercede for us.

O God, you are my God, for you I long;

for you my soul is thirsting.
my body pines for you

like a dry, weary land without water.
So I gaze on you in the sanctuary to see your strength and your glory.

For your love is better than life,
my lips will speak your praise.

So I will bless you all my life,
in your name I will lift up my hands.

My soul shall be filled as with a banquet,
my mouth shall praise you with joy.

On my bed I remember you.
On you I muse through the night for your have been my help;

in the shadow of your wings I rejoice.
My soul clings to you; your right hand holds me fast.

Those who seek to destroy my life
shall go down to the depths of the earth. They shall be put into the power of the sword and left as the prey of the jackals.

But the king shall rejoice in God;
(all that swear by him shall be blessed,) for the mouth of liars shall be silenced.

V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

R. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Ant. The bush Moses saw burn unconsumed - we acknowledge your praiseworthy virginity conserved , O Mother of God intercede for us.

Praise the Lord from the heavens,
praise him in the heights.

Praise him, all his angels,
praise him, all his host.

Praise him, sun and moon,
 praise him, shining stars.

Praise him, highest heavens
and the waters above the heavens.

Let them praise the name of the Lord.
 He commanded: they were made.

He fixed them for ever,
gave a law which shall not pass away.

Praise the Lord from the earth,
sea creatures and all oceans,

fire and hail, snow and mist,
stormy winds that obey his word;

all mountains and hills,
all fruit trees and cedars,

beasts, wild and tame,
reptiles and birds on the wing;

all earth's kings and peoples,
earth's princes and rulers,

young men and maidens,
the old men together with children. Let them praise the name of the Lord for he alone is exalted.

The splendor of his name
reaches beyond heaven and earth. He exalts the strength of his people.

He is the praise of all his saints,
of the sons of Israel, of the people to whom he comes close.

PSALM 149

CANTATE Domino canticum novum: laus eius in ecclesia sanctorum.

Laetetur Israel in eo, qui fecit eum: et filiae Sion exultent in rege suo.

Laudent nomen eius in choro: in tympano, et psalterio psallant ei.

Quia beneplacitum est Domino in populo suo: et exaltavit mansuetos in salutem.

Exultabunt sancti in gloria: laetabuntur in cubilibus suis.

Sing a new song to the Lord,
his praise in the assembly of the faithful.

Let Israel rejoice in its Maker,
let Zion's sons exult in their king.

Let them praise his name with dancing
and make music with timbrel and harp.

For the Lord takes delight in his people.
He crowns the poor with salvation.

Let the faithful rejoice in their glory,
shout for joy and take their rest.

Let the praise of God be on their lips
and a two-edged sword in their hand,

to deal out vengeance to the nations
and punishment on all the peoples;

to bind their kings in chains
and their nobles in fetters of iron;

to carry out the sentence pre-ordained:
this honor is for all his faithful.

PSALM 150

LAUDÁTE Dominum in sanctis eius: laudate eum in firmamento virtutis eius.

Laudate eum in virtutibus eius: laudate eum secundum multitudinem magnitudinis eius.

Laudate eum in sono tubae: laudate eum in psalterio et cithara.

Laudate eum in tympano et choro: laudate eum in cordis, et organo.

Laudate eum in cymbalis bene sonantibus, laudate eum in cymbalis iubilationis: omnis spiritus laudet Dominum.

V. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

R. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Ant. Ecce Maria genuit nobis salvatorem: quem Ioannes videns exclamavit dicens: Ecce agnus Dei, ecce qui tollit peccata mundi, Alleluia.

Praise God in his holy place,
praise him in his mighty heavens.

Praise him for his powerful deeds,
praise his surpassing greatness.

O praise him with sound of trumpet,
praise him with lute and harp.

Praise him with timbrel and dance,
praise him with strings and pipes.

O praise him with resounding cymbals, praise him with clashing of cymbals. Let everything that lives and that breathes
give praise to the Lord.

V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

R. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Ant. Behold Mary has brought forth for us a savior: whom John seeing, cried: Behold the lamb of God, behold him which takes away the sins of the world, Alleluia.

THE HYMN

O gloriosa virginum,

Sublimis inter sidera,

Qui te creavit, parvulum

Lactente nutris ubere.

O glorious lady! throned on high

Above the star-illumined sky;

Thereto ordained, thy bosom lent

To thy creator nourishment

Quod Heva tristis abstulit,

Tu reddis almo germine:

Intrent ut astra flebiles,

Caeli recludis cardines.

Through thy sweet offspring we receive

The bliss once lost through hapless Eve;

And heaven to mortals open lies

Now thou art portal of the skies.

Tu regis alti janua,

Et aula lucis fulgida:

Vitam datam per Virginem

Gentes redemptae plaudite.

Thou art the door of heaven's high King,

Light's gateway fair and glistering;

Life through a virgin is restored;

Ye ransomed nations, praise the Lord!

Jesu, tibi sit glória,

Qui natus es de Vírgine,

Cum Patre et almo Spíritu,

In sempitérna sǽcula.

Amen.

All honour, laud, and glory be,

O Jesu, Virgin-born, to thee;

All glory, as is ever meet,

To Father and to Paraclete.

Amen.

V/. Benedicta tu in mulieribus.

R/. Et benedictus fructus ventris tui.

V. Blessed art thou amongst women,

R. And blessed is the fruit of thy womb.

Ant. What a mystery is declared this day, natures are renewed; God is made man; remaining what he was, and assuming what He was not, without confusion or division.

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel:
He has visited his people and redeemed them.

He has raised up for us a mighty savior
in the house of David his servant,

as he promised by the lips of holy men,
those who were his prophets from of old,

a savior who would free us from our foes,
from the hands of all who hate us.

So his love for our fathers is fulfilled
and his holy covenant remembered.

He swore to Abraham our father
to grant us that,

free from fear (+) and saved from the hands of our foes, o we might serve him

in holiness and justice
all the days of our life in his presence.

As for you, little child, you shall be called a prophet of God the Most High.
You shall go ahead of the Lord to prepare his ways before him,

to make known to his people their salvation
through forgiveness of all their sins,

the lovingkindness of the heart of our God,
who visits us like the dawn from on high.

He will give light to those in darkness, those who dwell in the shadow of death,
and guide us into the way of peace.

To the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit,

give praise and glory forever.

V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

R. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Ant. What a mystery is declared this day, natures are renewed; God is made man; remaining what he was, and assuming what He was not, without confusion or division.

Through the same Jesus Christ, thy Son, Our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.

Dulcis Parens clementiae,
Tu nos ab hoste protege,
Et mortis hora suscipe.

Mary Mother of grace,
Sweet mother of mercy
Protect us from the enemy
And receive us at the hour of our death.

PSALM 53

Ant.

DEUS, in nómine tuo salvum me fac: * et in virtúte tua júdica me.

Quóniam ex omni tribulatióne eripuísti me: * et super inimícos meos despéxit óculus meus.

V. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

R. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Ant. O what a wondrous exchange: the creator of humankind taking a living body, deigned to be born of a virgin: and coming forth man without seed has given to us His Divinity.

O God, save me by your name; by your power, uphold my cause.

O God, hear my prayer; listen to the words of my mouth.

For proud men have risen against me, ruthless men seek my life. They have no regard for God.

But I have God for my help. The Lord upholds my life.

Let the evil recoil upon my foes; you who are faithful, destroy them.

I will sacrifice to you with willing heart and praise your name for it is good:

for you have rescued me from all distress and my eyes have seen the downfall of my foes.

V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

R. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

PSALM 84

BENEDIXÍSTI, Dómine, terram tuam: * avertísti captivitátem Jacob.

Remisísti iniquitátem plebis tuæ: * operuísti ómnia peccáta eórum.

Mitigásti omnem iram tuam: * avertísti ab ira indignatiónis tuæ.

Convérte nos, Deus, salutáris noster: * et avérte iram tuam a nobis.

Numquid in ætérnum irascéris nobis? * aut exténdes iram tuam a generatióne in generatiónem?

Deus, tu convérsus vivificábis nos: * et plebs tua lætábitur in te.

Osténde nobis, Dómine, misericórdiam tuam: * et salutáre tuum da nobis.

Audiam quid loquátur in me Dóminus Deus: * quóniam loquétur pacem in plebem suam.

Justítia ante eum ambulábit: * et ponet in via gressus suos.

V. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

R. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

O Lord, you once favored your land and revived the fortunes of Jacob,

you forgave the guilt of your people and covered all their sins.

You averted all your rage, you calmed the heat of your anger.

Revive us now, God, our helper! Put an end to your grievance against us.

Will you be angry with us for ever,

will your anger never cease? Will you not restore again our life that your people may rejoice in you?

Let us see, O Lord, your mercy and give us your saving help.

I will hear what the Lord God has to say, a voice that speaks of peace,

peace for his people and his friends and those who turn to him in their hearts.

His help is near for those who fear him and his glory will dwell in our land.

Mercy and faithfulness have met; justice and peace have embraced.

Faithfulness shall spring from the earth and justice look down from heaven.

The Lord will make us prosper and our earth shall yield its fruit.

Justice shall march before him and peace shall follow his steps.

V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

R. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

PSALM 116

LAUDÀTE Dóminum, omnes gentes: * laudáte eum, omnes pópuli:

Quóniam confirmáta est super nos misericórdia ejus: * et véritas Dómini manet in ætérnum.

V. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

R. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Ant.

O praise the Lord, all you nations,  acclaim him all you peoples!

Strong is his love for us; he is faithful for ever.

PSALM 109

Ant. Dum esset rex in accubitu suo, nardus mea dedit odorem suavitatis.

DIXIT Dóminus Dómino meo: * Sede a dextris meis:

Donec ponam inimícos tuos, * scabéllum pedum tuórum.

Virgam virtútis tuæ emíttet Dóminus ex Sion: * domináre in médio inimicórum tuórum.

Tecum princípium in die virtútis tuæ in splendóribus sanctórum: * ex útero ante lucíferum génui te.

Jurávit Dóminus, et non pœnitébit eum: * Tu es sacérdos in ætérnum secúndum órdinem Melchísedech.

Dóminus a dextris tuis, * confrégit in die iræ suæ reges.

Judicábit in natiónibus, implébit ruínas: * conquassábit cápita in terra multórum.

De torrénte in via bibet: * proptérea exaltábit caput.

V. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

R. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Ant. Dum esset rex in accubitu suo, nardus mea dedit odorem suavitatis.

Ant. While the king was upon his bed, my nard gave forth sweet fragrance.

The Lord's revelation to my Master: "Sit on my right:

your foes I will put beneath your feet."

The Lord will yield from Zion your scepter of power: rule in the midst of all your foes.

A prince from the day of your birth on the holy mountains; from the womb before the dawn I begot you.

The Lord has sworn an oath he will not change. "You are a priest for ever, a priest like Melchizedek of old."

The Master standing at your right hand will shatter kings in the day of his wrath.

He, the judge of the nations will heap high the bodies; heads shall be scattered far and wide.

He shall drink from the stream by the wayside and therefore he shall lift up his head.

V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

R. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Ant. While the king was upon his bed, my nard gave forth sweet fragrance.

PSALM 112

Ant. Laeva eius sub capite meo, a dextera illius amplexabitur me.

A solis ortu usque ad occásum, * laudábile nomen Dómini.

Excélsus super omnes gentes Dóminus, * et super cælos glória ejus.

Quis sicut Dóminus, Deus noster, qui in altis hábitat, * et humília réspicit in cælo et in terra?

Ant. Laeva eius sub capite meo, a dextera illius amplexabitur me.

Ant. His left hand is under my head: his right hand shall embrace me.

Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord!

May the name of the Lord be blessed both now and for evermore!

From the rising of the sun to its setting praised be the name of the Lord!

High above all nations is the Lord, above the heavens his glory.

Who is like the Lord, our God, who has risen on high to his throne yet stoops from the heights to look down, to look down upon heaven and earth?

From the dust he lifts up the lowly, from the dungheap he raises the poor

to set them in the company of princes, yes, with the princes of his people.

To the childless wife he gives a home and gladdens her heart with children.

V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

R. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, *  world without end. Amen.

Ant. His left hand is under my head: his right hand shall embrace me.

PSALM 121

Ant. Nigra sum, sed formosa filiae Hierusalem: ideo dilexit me Rex, et introduxit me in cubiculum suum.

LÆTATUS sum in his, quæ dicta sunt mihi: * In domum Dómini íbimus.

Stantes erant pedes nostri, * in átriis tuis, Jerúsalem.

Quia illic sedérunt sedes in judício, * sedes super domum David.

Amen.

Ant. Nigra sum, sed formosa filiae Hierusalem: ideo dilexit me Rex, et introduxit me in cubiculum suum.

Ant. I am black, but beautiful, o daughters of Jerusalem: therefore the king has loved me and brought me into his chamber.

I rejoiced when I heard them say: “Let us go to God's house.”

And now our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem.

Jerusalem is built as a city strongly compact.

It is there that the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord. For Israel's law it is, there to praise the Lord's name.

There were set the thrones of judgment of the house of David.

For the peace of Jerusalem pray: “Peace be to your homes!

May peace reign in your walls, in your palaces, peace!”

For love of my brethren and friends I say: “Peace upon you.”

For love of the house of the Lord I will ask for your good.

V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

R. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, *  world without end. Amen.

Ant. I am black, but beautiful, o daughters of Jerusalem: therefore the king has loved me and brought me into his chamber.

PSALM 126

Ant. Iam hiems transiit: imber abiit, et recessit: surge amica mea, et veni.

NISI Dóminus ædificáverit domum, * in vanum laboravérunt qui ædíficant eam.

Amen.

Ant. Iam hiems transiit: imber abiit, et recessit: surge amica mea, et veni.

Ant. Winter is now past: the rain is gone, and departed: arise my love, and come.

If the Lord does not build the house, in vain do its builders labor;

if the Lord does not watch over the city, in vain does the watchman keep vigil.

In vain is your earlier rising, your going later to rest, you who toil for the bread you eat,

when he pours gifts on his beloved while they slumber. Truly sons are a gift from the Lord, a blessing, the fruit of the womb.

Indeed the sons of youth are like arrows in the hand of a warrior.

O the happiness of the man who has filled his quiver with these arrows! He will have no cause for shame when he disputes with his foes in the gateways.

V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

R. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, *  world without end. Amen.

Ant. Winter is now past: the rain is gone, and departed: arise my love, and come.

PSALM 147

Ant. Speciosa facta es, et suavis in deliciis tuis, sancta Dei genitrix.

LAUDA, Jerúsalem, Dóminum: * lauda Deum tuum, Sion.

Quóniam confortávit seras portárum tuárum: * benedíxit fíliis tuis in te.

R. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Ant. Speciosa facta es, et suavis in deliciis tuis, sancta Dei genitrix.

Ant. You are made beautiful, and sweet in your delights, O Holy Mother of God.

O praise the Lord, Jerusalem! Zion praise your God!

He has strengthened the bars of your gates he has blessed the children within you.

He established peace on your borders, he feeds you with finest wheat.

He sends out his word to the earth and swiftly runs his command.

He showers down snow white as wool, he scatters hoar-frost like ashes.

He hurls down hailstones like crumbs. The waters are frozen at his touch;

He sends forth his word and it melts them: at the breath of his mouth the waters flow.

He makes his word known to Jacob, to Israel his laws and decrees.

He has not dealt thus with other nations; he has not taught them his decrees.

V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Spirit.

R. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, *  world without end. Amen.

Ant. You are made beautiful, and sweet in your delights, O Holy Mother of God.

READING from the SACRED SCRIPTURES
Isa 11:1-2

R/. Deo grátias.

AND there shall come forth a rod out of the root of Jesse, and a flower shall rise from his root. And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him.

R. Thanks be to God

THE HYMN

AVE, maris stella,
Dei mater alma,
atque semper virgo,
felix cœli porta.

Hail, star of the sea,
Nurturing Mother of God,
And ever Virgin
Happy gate of Heaven

Sumens illud «Ave»
Gabrielis ore,
funda nos in pace,
mutans Evæ
nomen.

Receiving that “Ave”
From the mouth of Gabriel,
Establish us in peace,
Transforming the name of “Eva”

Solve vincla reis,
profer lumen cæcis,
mala nostra pelle,
bona cuncta posce.

Loosen the chains of the guilty,
Send forth light to the blind,
Our evil do thou dispel,
Entreat (for us) all good things.

Monstra te esse matrem,
sumat per te precem
qui pro nobis natus
tulit esse tuus.

Show thyself to be a Mother:
Through thee may he receive prayer
Who, being born for us,
Undertook to be thine own.

Virgo singularis,
inter omnes mitis,
nos culpis solutos
mites fac et castos.

O unique Virgin,
Meek above all others,
Make us, set free from (our) sins,
Meek and chaste.

Vitam præsta puram,
iter para tutum,
ut videntes Jesum
semper collætemur.

Bestow a pure life,
Prepare a safe way:
That seeing Jesus,
We may ever rejoice.

Sit laus Deo Patri,
summo Christo decus,
Spiritui Sancto
tribus honor unus. Amen.

Praise be to God the Father,
To the Most High Christ (be) glory,
To the Holy Spirit
(Be) honour, to the Three equally. Amen.

THE CANTICLE of MARY

Ant.

Et misericórdia ejus, a progénie in progénies: * timéntibus eum.

Fecit poténtiam in bráchio suo: * dispérsit supérbos mente cordis sui.

Ant. : O blessed mother and untouched virgin, glorious Queen of the world, make intercession for us unto our Lord.

My soul ☩ * doth magnify the Lord.

And my spirit hath rejoiced * in God my Saviour.

Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid; * for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

Because he that is mighty, hath done great things to me; * and holy is his name.

And his mercy is from generation unto generations, * to them that fear him.

He hath shewed might in his arm: * he hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.

He hath put down the mighty from their seat, * and hath exalted the humble.

He hath filled the hungry with good things; * and the rich he hath sent empty away.

He hath received Israel his servant, * being mindful of his mercy:

As he spoke to our fathers, * to Abraham and to his seed for ever.

V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

R. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
