Belmont Abbey Church |
BELMONT Abbey in Hereford was established as a Benedictine community in 1854. From 1859 to 1901 it served as the common novitiate and house of studies for the English Benedictine Congregation; and until 1895 it served as Cathedral-Priory for the newly-created Catholic Diocese of Newport and Menevia. The monastic community was responsible for a secondary school until 1993. The monastery maintains several parishes and holds retreats and conferences in Hedley Lodge, their facility for hospitality.
