Waterfall from the River Leuk becoming a tributary of the River Saar

THE city of Saarburg lies on the bank of the Saar River, near the junction with the Mosel River.   The outstanding feature of the city is a deep gorge and waterfall running through the middle of the city.  In the medieval period it powered three mills; in the early twentieth century a dynamo was added to provided electrical power to the city.  The waterfall represents a medieval diversion of the River Leuk into the city for reasons that remain obscure.
