Orton, Parish Church |
ORTON is a village in Cumbria, a county in the North of England, about forty miles south of the border with Scotland, nestled in the Haugills Fells (hills). It is just east and north of the village of Tebay, once an important railroad town, now a stop on the M6 motorway.

ORTON PARISH CHURCHYARD |
AS a kind of experiment in restoration and maintenance, the (16th-century) tower of the 12th-century parish church of All Saints was coated in lime in 2007, which appears to have been the medieval way of preventing damp and deterioration of the stone. The experiment seems to have been a success, although the appearance of plain, undressed stone, rather than lime-whitewashed, is much more romantic and popular.

OLD MIL |
THE stream to the right of the little lane, cascading in miniature waterfalls, is a tributary of the River Lune. It runs along the road leading to a farmhouse that once housed the village mill.
