THE LETTER to the GALATIANS

CHAPTERS 5:24-6:2

 

 

AND those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.26 Let us have no self-conceit, no provoking of one another, no envy of one another.

οἱ δὲ τοῦ Χριστοῦ [Ἰησοῦ] τὴν σάρκα ἐσταύ ρωσαν σὺν τοῖς παθήμασιν καὶ ταῖς ἐπιθυμίαις. εἰ ζῶμεν πνεύματι͵ πνεύματι καὶ στοιχῶμεν.  μὴ γινώμεθα κενόδοξοι͵ ἀλλήλους προκαλούμενοι͵ ἀλλήλοις φθο νοῦντες.

6:1 BROTHERS, if a man is overtaken in any trespass (paraptoma: sin, wrongdoing), you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Look to yourself, lest you too be tempted. 2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Ἀδελφοί͵ ἐὰν καὶ προλημφθῇ ἄνθρωπος ἔν τινι παραπτώματι͵ ὑμεῖς οἱ πνευματικοὶ καταρτίζετε τὸν τοιοῦτον ἐν πνεύματι πραΰτητος͵ σκοπῶν σεαυτόν͵ μὴ καὶ σὺ πειρασθῇς.  Ἀλλήλων τὰ βάρη βαστάζετε͵ καὶ οὕτως ἀναπληρώσετε τὸν νόμον τοῦ Χριστοῦ.

 


THE LETTER of JAMES

CHAPTER 5

 

 

13 IS any one among you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing praise.

Κακοπαθεῖ τις ἐν ὑμῖν; προσευχέσθω· εὐθυμεῖ τις; ψαλλέτω.

14 Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders (presbyteroi) of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; 15 and the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16

.514 ἀσθενεῖ τις ἐν ὑμῖν; προσκαλεσάσθω τοὺς πρεσβυτέρους τῆς ἐκκλησίας͵ καὶ προσευξάσθωσαν ἐπ΄ αὐτὸν ἀλείψαντες ἐλαίῳ ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι [τοῦ] κυρίου· 5.15 καὶ ἡ εὐχὴ τῆς πίστεως σώσει τὸν κάμνοντα͵ καὶ ἐγερεῖ αὐτὸν ὁ κύριος· κἂν ἁμαρτίας ᾖ πεποιηκώς͵ ἀφεθήσεται αὐτῷ. 5.16

Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed.

ἐξομολογεῖσθε οὖν ἀλλήλοις τὰς ἁμαρτίας καὶ εὔχεσθε ὑπὲρ ἀλλήλων͵ ὅπως ἰαθῆτε.

The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects. 17 Elijah was a man of like nature with ourselves and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. 18 Then he prayed again and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth its fruit.

πολὺ ἰσχύει δέησις δικαίου ἐνεργουμένη. 5.17 Ἠλίας ἄνθρωπος ἦν ὁμοιοπαθὴς ἡμῖν͵ καὶ προσευχῇ προσηύξατο τοῦ μὴ βρέξαι͵ καὶ οὐκ ἔβρεξεν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἐνιαυτοὺς τρεῖς καὶ μῆνας ἕξ· 5.18 καὶ πάλιν προσηύξατο͵ καὶ ὁ οὐρανὸς ὑετὸν ἔδωκεν καὶ ἡ γῆ ἐβλάστησεν τὸν καρπὸν αὐτῆς.

19 My brethren, if any one among you wanders from the truth and some one brings him back, 20 let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

5.19 Ἀδελφοί μου͵ ἐάν τις ἐν ὑμῖν πλανηθῇ ἀπὸ τῆς ἀληθείας καὶ ἐπιστρέψῃ τις αὐτόν͵ 5.20 γινώσκετε ὅτι ὁ ἐπιστρέψας ἁμαρτωλὸν ἐκ πλάνης ὁδοῦ αὐτοῦ σώσει ψυχὴν [αὐτοῦ] ἐκ θανάτου καὶ καλύψει πλῆθος ἁμαρτιῶν.

CHAPTER 16

 

 

15 HE said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”  17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.

λέγει αὐτοῖς͵ Ὑμεῖς δὲ τίνα με λέγετε εἶναι;  ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ Σίμων Πέτρος εἶπεν͵ Σὺ εἶ ὁ Χριστὸς ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ τοῦ ζῶντος.  ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ͵ Μακάριος εἶ͵ Σίμων Βαριωνᾶ͵ ὅτι σὰρξ καὶ αἷμα οὐκ ἀπεκάλυψέν σοι ἀλλ΄ ὁ πατήρ μου ὁ ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς. 

18 AND I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

κἀγὼ δέ σοι λέγω ὅτι σὺ εἶ Πέτρος͵ καὶ ἐπὶ ταύτῃ τῇ πέτρᾳ οἰκοδομήσω μου τὴν ἐκκλησίαν͵ καὶ πύλαι ᾅδου οὐ κατισχύσουσιν αὐτῆς.  δώσω σοι τὰς κλεῖδας τῆς βασιλείας τῶν οὐρανῶν͵ καὶ ὃ ἐὰν δήσῃς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἔσται δεδεμένον ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς͵ καὶ ὃ ἐὰν λύσῃς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἔσται λελυμένον ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς.

CHAPTER 18

 

 

12 WHAT do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray?  13 And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray.  14 So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.

Τί ὑμῖν δοκεῖ; ἐὰν γένηταί τινι ἀνθρώπῳ ἑκατὸν πρόβατα καὶ πλανηθῇ ἓν ἐξ αὐτῶν͵ οὐχὶ ἀφήσει τὰ ἐνενήκοντα ἐννέα ἐπὶ τὰ ὄρη καὶ πορευθεὶς ζητεῖ τὸ πλανώμενον;  καὶ ἐὰν γένηται εὑρεῖν αὐτό͵ ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι χαίρει ἐπ΄ αὐτῷ μᾶλλον ἢ ἐπὶ τοῖς ἐνενήκοντα ἐννέα τοῖς μὴ πεπλανημένοις. οὕτως οὐκ ἔστιν θέλημα ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ πατρὸς ὑμῶν τοῦ ἐν οὐρανοῖς ἵνα ἀπόληται ἓν τῶν μικρῶν τούτων.

15 IF your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother.  16 But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses.  17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.

 Ἐὰν δὲ ἁμαρτήσῃ [εἰς σὲ] ὁ ἀδελφός σου͵ ὕπαγε ἔλεγξον αὐτὸν μεταξὺ σοῦ καὶ αὐτοῦ μόνου. ἐάν σου ἀκούσῃ͵ ἐκέρδησας τὸν ἀδελφόν σου· 18.16 ἐὰν δὲ μὴ ἀκούσῃ͵ παράλαβε μετὰ σοῦ ἔτι ἕνα ἢ δύο͵ ἵνα ἐπὶ στόματος δύο μαρτύρων ἢ τριῶν σταθῇ πᾶν ῥῆμα·ῃ  ἐὰν δὲ παρακούσῃ αὐτῶν͵ εἰπὲ τῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ· ἐὰν δὲ καὶ τῆς ἐκκλησίας παρακούσῃ͵ ἔστω σοι ὥσπερ ὁ ἐθνικὸς καὶ ὁ τελώνης. 

  18 TRULY, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.  19 Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.  20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”

Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν͵ ὅσα ἐὰν δήσητε ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἔσται δεδεμένα ἐν οὐρανῷ καὶ ὅσα ἐὰν λύσητε ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἔσται λελυμένα ἐν οὐρανῷ.  Πάλιν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ἐὰν δύο συμφωνήσωσιν ἐξ ὑμῶν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς περὶ παντὸς πράγμα τος οὗ ἐὰν αἰτήσωνται͵ γενήσεται αὐτοῖς παρὰ τοῦ πατρός μου τοῦ ἐν οὐρανοῖς.  οὗ γάρ εἰσιν δύο ἢ τρεῖς συνηγμέ νοι εἰς τὸ ἐμὸν ὄνομα͵ ἐκεῖ εἰμι ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν.

 

 

THE GOSPEL of JOHN

CHAPTER 20

 

 

ON the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”  20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.

Οὔσης οὖν ὀψίας τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ τῇ μιᾷ σαββάτων͵ καὶ τῶν θυρῶν κεκλεισμένων ὅπου ἦσαν οἱ μαθηταὶ διὰ τὸν φόβον τῶν Ἰουδαίων͵ ἦλθεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς καὶ ἔστη εἰς τὸ μέσον καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς͵ Εἰρήνη ὑμῖν. καὶ τοῦτο εἰπὼν ἔδειξεν τὰς χεῖρας καὶ τὴν πλευρὰν αὐτοῖς. ἐχάρη σαν οὖν οἱ μαθηταὶ ἰδόντες τὸν κύριον.

21 JESUS said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

εἶπεν οὖν αὐτοῖς πάλιν͵ Εἰρήνη ὑμῖν· καθὼς ἀπέσταλκέν με ὁ πατήρ͵ κἀγὼ πέμπω ὑμᾶς.  καὶ τοῦτο εἰπὼν ἐνε φύσησεν καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς͵ Λάβετε πνεῦμα ἅγιον·  ἄν τινων ἀφῆτε τὰς ἁμαρτίας ἀφέωνται αὐτοῖς͵ ἄν τινων κρατῆτε κεκράτηνται.
