THE SPIRITUALITY of the Catholic Reformation (Counter-Reformation) is most clearly reflected in the writings of the Carmelite Saints John of the Cross and Teresa of Avila, and in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. The monastic appropriation of this spirit is anticipated in the writings of Abbot Blosius, O.S.B. and expressed in Dom Augustine Baker, O.S.B.; while it’s thoroughgoing application to the laity is found in the treatises of St. Francis de Sales.
