High Priestly PRayer John 17:11-26

THE HIGH PRIESTLY PRAYER of JESUS:  JOHN 17:11-26
During Supper, after washing the feet of the disciples

AND 11 now I am no more in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me,

that they may be one,

even as we are one.

12 While I was with them, I kept them in thy name, which you have given me; I have guarded them, and none of them is lost but the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled.

13 But now I am coming to you; and these things I speak in the world,

that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

14 I have given them your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

15 I do not pray that you should take them out of the world, but that you should keep them from the evil one.

16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

SANCTIFY 17 them in the truth; your word is truth.

18 As you did send me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.

19 And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be consecrated in truth.

I DO NOT 20 pray for these only, but also for those who believe in me through their word,

21 that they may all be one;

even as you, Father, are in me,

and I in you,

that they also may be in us,

so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

22 The glory which you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one,

23 I in them and you in me,

that they may become perfectly one,

so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

FATHER, 24 I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to behold my glory which you have given me in thy love for me before the foundation of the world.

25 O righteous Father, the world has not known you, but I have known you; and these know that you have sent me.

26 I made known to them thy name, and I will make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”

Great High Priest HEBREWS 4:14-5:10

HEBREWS 4:14-5:10

 Christ, The High Priest

SINCE 4:14 then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.

15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to 15  οὐ γὰρ ἔχομεν ἀρχιερέα μὴ δυνάμενον

 sympathize with our weaknesses,

[sumpatheō συμπαθέω - .suffer with ~ become subject to or dependent

but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, πεπειρασμένον δὲ κατὰ πάντα καθ᾽ ὁμοιότητα

yet without sin.

16 Let us then with confidence 16  προσερχώμεθα οὖν μετὰ παρρησίας

[parrēsia/παρρησία - .bold {trusting} freeedom of speech

draw near to the throne of grace,  τῷ θρόνῳ τῆς χάριτος,

[charis/χάρις- .grace, beauty, favor, delight

that we may receive mercy

and find grace to help in time of need.

[eleos/χάρις- .grace, beauty, favor, delight

Human (High-) Priests know therr own weaknesses

5:1FOR every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.

2 He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, 2  μετριοπαθεῖν δυνάμενος τοῖς ἀγνοοῦσιν καὶ πλανωμένοις,

[metriopatheō/μετριοπαθέω- .be gentle with, understand, exercise moderation

since he himself is beset with weakness.

BECAUSE 3 of this he is bound to offer sacrifice for his own sins as well as for those of the people.

4 And one does not take the honor upon himself, but he is called by God, just as Aaron was.

SO 5 also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him, “Your are my Son, today I have begotten you”;

6 as he says also in another place, “Your are a priest for ever, according to the order of Melchizedek.”

IN 7 the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard for his godly fear.

8 Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered;

9 and being made perfect he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him,

10 being designated by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.
