AROUND the year 395 several anonymous travelers made a pilgrim-tour of monasteries in Egypt in order to visit and listen to the most renowned desert fathers. A Greek text describing their experiences was translated into Latin, probably by Rufinus, who modified some portions based on his own experiences of monastic Egypt. The following map depicts their journey as described in the text.
