THE MONASTIC COMMUNITY at Valyermo was founded in China in 1929 by the Abbey of Sint Andries Zevenkerken in Brugge, Belgium. The monks prayed, taught, and worked in China until they were expelled by the communists in 1952. In 1955 the community relocated at Valyermo in the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains. A PEACEFUL SETTING
for
INNER
RENEWAL

Saint Andrew's Abbey, Valyermo.

THE principal work of all Benedictine monks is prayer.  Saint Andrew's Abbey provides a peaceful environment where all visitors, guests, and retreatants may join the monastic community in prayer, meditation, and enjoyment of beautiful surroundings in the High Desert.  All are invited to use the natural setting and their experience of the monastery to reestablish a healthy rhythm of silence and speech, of gentle introspection and interaction with others.
